Mountaineers Start Season with Victory

August 19, 2008
By Mitchell High Staff of Mitchell High School

Mitchell High School started the 2008 soccer season with a 1-0 victory over the Pisgah Bearcats.  On Monday night, the Mountaineers came onto the field ready to play.  Thirty minutes into the game, Marvin Tehandon (#17), scored a beautiful goal from 20 yards out with an assist from Jacob Martinez.  The Bearcats had several good opportunities to score, but the Mountaineer defense was too strong for them to break through.  Overall, the Mountaineers had 28 shots on goal to the Bearcats' 12.  Coach Dan Mckinney commented that the Mountaineers are playing more aggresively this year and simply outhustled their opponents.  He says he's glad to see some of the senior players stepping up and being good leaders for their fellow teammates.
